City View Ballfields Improvement

TDSC Civil successfully completed ballfield improvement operations for the City of Virginia Beach at City View Park focused on improving field drainage, player safety, and overall playability across four softball fields. The project required detailed coordination of grading operations, infield reconstruction, sod restoration, and installation of specialty athletic field components.

The project began with infield analysis operations to evaluate existing field conditions and determine the appropriate approach for each field, including full infield replacement or amendment of existing materials. Existing infield materials, clay underlayments, and related features were removed and disposed of in accordance with City requirements.

Key components successfully completed during the project included:

  • Analysis and evaluation of four existing ballfield infields
  • Removal and replacement/amendment of existing infield mix materials
  • Fine grading and shaping of infields to improve drainage and field performance
  • Installation of FieldGem ChoicePlus infield mix with calcined clay amendment
  • Removal and replacement of 10-foot sod sections surrounding the infields utilizing Hybrid Bermuda sod
  • Installation of new clay brick underlayments at home plate and pitching areas
  • Installation of new pitching rubbers, base anchors, bases, and plates for multiple field configurations
  • Restoration and cleanup of all disturbed areas throughout the park

Throughout the project, TDSC Civil maintained protection of surrounding park features including fencing, bleachers, lighting infrastructure, and outfield areas while coordinating work operations within an active public park environment.
