For this project, we installed over 500 lf of a new water main using a mix of 4-inch and 6-inch DIP with V-BIO wrap. We followed the deflection requirements at the joints and worked to keep alignment as clean as possible. We also maintained the required 10-foot separation from the sanitary sewer throughout. The new main was tied into the existing hydrant tee.
As we got into it, there were multiple existing utilities in conflict with the proposed alignment. Because of that, we had to weave the pipe both horizontally and vertically to make everything work while still staying within spec. That added some complexity, but we were able to adjust in the field and keep things moving without major issues.
Along with the mainline, we installed the associated appurtenances needed for the new system, including gate valves, fittings, blowoff, and all required restraint lengths at each location. At the end of the project, the existing 4-inch cast iron main was abandoned in place and filled with flowable fill. Overall, the job has come together well, and the new system is in place and ready for long-term service.
